Javier Pastore confirms “I wanted to go back to Italy”, and praises the passion of the Roma fans.
The midfielder signed for the Giallorossi today in a €25m move from Paris Saint-Germain, and he was officially presented this afternoon.
“The reasons are simple, this is a great team which is growing a lot,” Pastore explained in the Press conference.
“Monchi and I have been talking for a couple of months, and the choice was easy. It’s a great team, a great city and I wanted to go back to Italy.

“I know that the fans are very passionate, but even then I didn’t expect there to be so many people at the airport yesterday.
“I’m very pleased, it makes me want to do well, to start being great again this season. The most beautiful thing about football is the fans who get behind the players. I’ve come to a city where there’s a lot of support.
“My role? The Coach [Eusebio Di Francesco] will decide, I just want to be there at training and make myself available.
“I’ve spoken to the Coach and I think he wants to play me in more of a wide position. I’m available.
“In Paris I sometimes played as a trequartista, sometimes on the wing and sometimes on the left of a front-three.
“They were the Coach’s decisions. It’s true that in my first year I played as a trequartista, then in the second I played on the left of a midfield three.
“In my last year I was more of a forward, but in my career I’ve played as a mezzala [wide central midfielder], a trequartista and a forward, I’ll adapt to the Coach’s formation.
“Did Di Francesco say I’d play on the wing? No, mezzala.”
Walter Sabatini, who signed Pastore for Palermo, said today that he struggles with competition…
“He knows me well and every time I hear him talk about me he says the right thing. He brought me here [to Italy], but I have to say I don’t struggle with competition itself, competition makes you improve.
“The problem is when it’s not the right kind of competition. There are a lot of players at PSG, and there are those who have to play and those are the most recent arrivals.
“I was there for seven years, and in the first few years I played every game. Then when there are so many players it’s hard to have a permanent place, especially when the Coach is changed every two years.
“Every player plays in his own way and every Coach has his own taste.
“I couldn’t compete with Neymar, Neymar plays because of his strength, he’s a phenomenon.
“I came here to Roma to have competition, and also to feel important. That’s the most important thing for me now.”
