Mario Pasalic’s spirits were a little muted following Atalanta’s tough draw with Salernitana, despite his last minute equaliser.

The 27-year-old Croatian midfielder netted in the 88th minute to snatch a point for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side following a hard fought match with Davide Nicola’s Salernitana, who are in a desperate battle to avoid relegation. Atalanta’s hopes for European qualification are still alive, but things are looking grim.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Pasalic first reacted to the tough draw against Salernitana.

“We expected a tough game, Salernitana have shown in the last three games that they are a good team fighting to avoid relegation. They have shown it, at least we didn’t lose but I don’t understand why we don’t win at home. We’re looking ahead.”

The 27-year-old Croatian midfielder touched on the difficult fight for European qualification.

“We have two away games where we play better and have better results. We hope to win and stay high in the fight for the Europa League.”

Finally, Pasalic discussed how its technically his best season for Atalanta, something he’s not particularly interested in currently.

“Numerically it’s good but it doesn’t count for anything, we’re not at the level of the other years and we can’t be happy. I don’t know what was missing, we have to analyse it and see what we can improve for the future.”

The 27-year-old Pasalic, who is contracted to Atalanta until 2025, has made 34 Serie A appearances this season, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists.

La Dea currently sit 7th in the Serie A table with 56 points, three behind Lazio and Roma, who are both also bitterly fighting to secure European qualification.
