Marco Parolo believes both Lazio and Roma were unlucky not to win the Derby della Capitale and “we proved we’re by no means inferior.”

The Biancocelesti’s confidence was hit hard this week by a Europa League quarter-final exit, whereas their city rivals crushed Barcelona 3-0 to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

“There were 10 crazy minutes, which I think will remain locked in a cupboard somewhere,” Parolo told Mediaset Premium of their Europa League defeat to RB Salzburg.

“We faced Roma with open and attacking football, we always looked capable of scoring something when it was 11 against 11.

“Roma poured forward after the red card and we defended well, but even then had opportunities of our own too.

“We proved that we are by no means inferior to them, even if they are in the Champions League semi-final. Both sides wanted to win, neither of us were lucky.

“It’s true the Giallorossi hit the woodwork, but we had that late Adam Marusic chance that was deflected wide and nine times out of 10 that goes in.

“The race for the top four will go down to the wire, we’ve got the final match with Inter at the Olimpico and our marvellous crowd can make the difference.”
