Marco Parolo insists Lazio “had more scoring opportunities and deserved to win, but it was just like the game in Glasgow” with another 2-1 defeat to Celtic.

Once again, Ciro Immobile put the Aquile in front, but they managed to throw it away in the Europa League.

“It was just like the game in Glasgow, we started really strong and then fell away. We relaxed and they started to press, equalising on the first shot on goal,” confessed Parolo.

“We had more scoring opportunities and deserved to win. Unfortunately, in Europe you need to be wide awake to the last second and this defeat means we now have to wait for other results to go our way.”

Lazio only beat Rennes in this group phase, having taken the lead against Cluj and twice with Celtic, only to lose all of them 2-1 with late goals.

“I don’t believe we are inferior to these teams at all,” continued Parolo. “We were all poured forward towards the end and Celtic scored on the counter-attack.

“As usual, we don’t make the most of our chances and in Europe, you have to be more clinical. The Celtic goalkeeper was decisive yet again, but we lacked the determination to finish our chances.”
