“In Genoa we will find a team looking for redemption,” the Coach acknowledged on Tuesday at the training ground.
“But Parma will also want to redeem after our negative result. From the perspective of motivation, we are equal.
“Compared to Sunday, we have to show something different in terms of desire. We must acquire the ability to go on to any field and play our cards.
“We are still lacking in the mental side, which is the most difficult to train but has a huge weight on our conviction. All together we must work to progress in this regard.”
Donadoni was taken to task on his decision to drop Sergio Floccari last weekend, to which he replied in kind.
“Do I regret not picking Floccari? There are players on a par with him. To rest my plans only on him diminishes the value of other players.
“He was in the stands as in previous matches he had spent so much energy. Maybe if I had played him and he wasn’t in optimal conditions then you would have objected and said it would have been better to play someone else, right?
“If he is not available on Saturday then I will go with another, who I will think is equal. I’m sorry that [Raffaele] Palladino was injured, he started well. No-one disputes Floccari’s value or his weight in Parma, but I do not want it to degrade the value of other players.”
The Coach was also asked of the team’s weakness in front of goal, having watched them score just three goals in the last five outings.
“It is no doubt that scoring goals is a limitation of ours that has been revealed. I believe that teams like Parma, however, will always find it complicated to find a striker who can score 10-15 goals a season.
“It is clear that we could use an attacker who reaches double digits, to me and everyone. Now we must be good at having more players score.
“The midfielders for example – [McDonald] Mariga, [Stefano] Morrone, [Jaime] Valdes, they must score more, as must the wingers. They have to acquire this conviction and willingness [to shoot].”
