Parma have laughed off Zdenek Zeman’s complaints that the pitch cost Roma a result last night. “A dry turf would’ve favoured us even more.”

There were fears the match at the Stadio Tardini would not go ahead due to heavy rainfall and flooding in the area, causing huge puddles on the playing surface.

In some of the goals, the puddles proved decisive, as the ball would not roll properly and was caught up in the mud for a 3-2 Parma victory.

“Yesterday we put in an impressive performance and in fact a dry turf would’ve favoured us even more, because we do well with pace on the counter-attack,” said President Tommaso Ghirardi.

“It was a tough showing against a strong side. We are satisfied with what we are doing, with Roberto Donadoni’s work and that of all the lads.

“I want to reserve particular praise for Massimo Gobbi, who we signed on a free transfer after the strong seasons he had with Fiorentina.”” data-scaytid=”39″>Fiorentina.”

General manager Pietro Leonardi also criticised Zeman’s complaints about the Tardini pitch.

“We did cover it with protective sheets, but as the rain kept coming down it became difficult for everyone. It’s not the first time we have played on a turf like this. If anything, it was worse against Galatasaray and Cluj.”
