Leandro Paredes promises to “repay the faith” of Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Empoli, but has featured in both Serie A games so far this season.

“I have to repay the faith he gave me through my actions on the pitch,” Paredes told Roma Match Program.

“I’ll give my all. Everyone has to give their best for the team and also for the Coach.

“Playing in front of the defence? I haven’t played that role much, but I was fine last year and I hope to improve from game-to-game.

“Working hard in training I can improve a lot, so for me it’s very useful with my teammates in the role that we have in the team.

“I can improve a lot in defence, I think you can learn in this role every day.”

Paredes will have a reunion with Marco Giampaolo this weekend, with the former Empoli boss having taken over at Sampdoria.

“He’s a great Coach and we have a good relationship, I’m happy to see him again.

“It was him who, after a week at Empoli, put me in the middle of the midfield. I think he made the right choice and I have to thank him because it gave me so much confidence.

“I’d come to play as an outside midfielder or as a trequartista, but he believed it would be the best move for me.

“Luckily it went well and I think he made the right choice, as I’m not comfortable in that role.”
