Giuseppe Papadopulo has confirmed that he turned down the chance to become the new Bari boss after the dismissal of Giampiero Ventura.

The latter was axed last night after a nightmare campaign which has seen last season's Serie A revelation side fall to the bottom of the standings.

Bortolo Mutti was confirmed as Ventura's replacement on Thursday evening, but seemingly only after the former Lazio boss snubbed the San Nicola outfit's approach.

"I was called by Bari," he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "However, they only offered me an agreement until June.

"I wanted a longer deal in which I could work, one until 2012."
