La Dea had been 2-0 up at Old Trafford the last time these sides met, only to capitulate after the restart and eventually lose 3-2 to a towering Cristiano Ronaldo header.

“We are ready and hope to put in a good performance,” Palomino told Mediaset Infinity.

“We’re very happy to be here today with a wonderful atmosphere and crowd, so we hope to do our best.”

The Champions League group remains extremely tight, as Manchester United have six points, followed by Atalanta and Villarreal on four, then Young Boys of Switzerland with three.

This also represents the return of Ronaldo to Italian soil for the first time since he left Juventus in August.

“We’ll do everything we possibly can to stop him.”

Palomino is not 100 per cent fit, along with Merih Demiral, but they both start in a makeshift defence with Marten de Roon.

Rafael Toloi, Berat Djimsiti, Robin Gosens, Matteo Pessina and Hans Hateboer are all out of action.
