Angelo Palombo senses that life at Sampdoria under Sinisa Mihajlovic is similar to how it was under Gigi Del Neri.

Under Del Neri the Blucerchiati managed to qualify for the preliminary rounds of the Champions League following a fourth place finish in 2009-10.

With the team currently sat in the third and final Champions League qualification spot following a strong and unbeaten start under Mihajlovic, it has their vice-captain reminiscing.

“With Mihajlovic in a sense we are back to the days of Del Neri,” Palombo has told La Repubblica this week.

“He is a Coach who thinks first of all of us.

“The most important thing is our identity, the opponents come after that.

“The formations only count up to a certain point.”
