The Giallorossi overcame Barcelona in the quarter-finals with a thrilling 3-0 win on Tuesday night, and have been drawn against the Reds in the last four, having lost the final to them in 1984.

“It’s great, it’s the Boston derby, right?” Pallotta told a reporter from Gianluca Di Marzio’s website.

“Liverpool’s owned by Boston guys, John Henry… it’s going to be fun, it’ll be great to see [Mohamed] Salah again.

“He [Henry] phoned me the other night and I texted him back but I haven’t spoken to him today because I’ve been in meetings but it’s going to be great.

“The 1984 final? I wasn’t born then! Well you know I was, but it’s close. I don’t think it’s a revenge thing, it’s another generation and it should be good matches and we’re looking forward to it.

“I like that it’s in Liverpool and then in Rome, it’s fine. Either place we have to take care of business whether it’s home first or away first.

“Can we win? Of course we can, why can’t we win? We just played Barcelona who are supposed to be the best team in the world and the team played as well as I’ve seen them in five years.

“So we all know they can play well, they did it with Chelsea and others, so of course we can win.

“We just have to play and not make mistakes the whole game. When you get down to these three or four teams you have to eliminate as many mistakes as you possibly can, because those kind of teams are going to take advantage of it.

“So if we play anywhere near like we played against Barcelona then we should be in good shape.”
