Roma President Jim Pallotta hails the local police, and hits back at an ESPN pundit who criticised the Giallorossi.

Liverpool fan Sean Cox was allegedly assaulted ahead of the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, with two Roman men to stand trial later this month.

There were therefore fears of further violence last night in the return leg, but the game went by with no issues.

“That shouldn’t be a reflection on us and it shouldn’t be on Rome versus a couple of – as I said before – f’ing morons,” Pallotta said on Sirius XM FC.

“The police did an unbelievable job here, the authorities did a great job. It went well, the Liverpool fans were singing the whole time, they were out in the Piazzas, they were contained and singing.

“Listen, it’s just a stupid reputation that some people want to keep putting out there when it’s a few fans.

“People go ‘oh look at the stabbings’, but when we look at the stabbings – which again obviously are ridiculous – if you go back 10 years there’s been two.

“Then one dumb, dumb thing in Liverpool.”

Former Venezuelan international Alejandro Moreno said on ESPN that Roma are “simply not good enough”.

“I turn on the TV at 4am to ESPN FC and you have a jackass like that guy Alejandro whatever-the-hell-his-name-is making a stupid comment about ‘oh let’s face it Roma’s not a good team’.

“I’d love to go on ESPN FC and go step-by-step on the two games. Someone who’s played versus someone like me who’s a soccer moron: this could be a lot of fun.

“When you can make a comment like that, when you take Barcelona 3-0, Chelsea 3-0, Chelsea 3-3… I had to get that in. He deserves it.”
