American sports mogul Charlie Stillitano claims James Pallotta is only still at the helm of Roma because of their new stadium project.

A summer of more big sales saw Pallotta come under fire, despite Roma’s run to the Champions League semi-finals last season, and Stillitano admits his fellow American ‘doesn’t know’ how to grow the Giallorossi.

“I saw him two weeks ago and he seemed disappointed, very disappointed,” the International Champions Cup founder, who was once linked with Milan, told Corriere dello Sport.

“Maybe he thought that, after last season, finding revenue would get easier… I’m only joking, but he’s a bit perplexed. He doesn’t know what to do.

“I told him: ‘Jim, the project is good, you have some good young players. I’m thinking Kluivert, Cengiz, plus I really like Schick and then there’s Lorenzo Pellegrini…’

“If the stadium project continues then he’ll stay but if there’s another blockade, I think he’ll leave.”
