According to the official Palermo website, Pinilla should be out of action for around six weeks and can return to the field in March.

It means there are only two strikers available for tomorrow's Serie A game, Fabrizio Miccoli and Massimo Maccarone, against Sampdoria.

The injury could also prompt Palermo's rethink over their plans to sell Maccarone in the January transfer window.

Palermo squad: Benussi, Brichetto, Sirigu; Andelkovic, Balzaretti, Bovo, Cassani, Darmian, Garcia, Goian, Munoz; Bacinovic, Ilicic, Kasami, Kurtic, Liverani, Migliaccio, Nocerino, Pastore, Rigoni; Maccarone, Miccoli
