Palermo have again underlined their intention to hand club captain Fabrizio Miccoli a new contract in Sicily.

The 33-year-old has less than a year left on his current deal and the delay in negotiations has fuelled talk that a split is on the cards.

However, new Palermo director Pietro Lo Monaco has revealed that the matter could be resolved in the coming weeks.

“We would like him to stay with us,” Lo Monaco stated. “We’ve set a meeting up for the next few months.

“Both parties want to extend the contract and that will happen when the time is right.”

Miccoli, who may be facing a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury in the 4-1 loss at Roma on Sunday, joined Palermo in 2007 after two seasons with Benfica.
