The deadline day loan signing from Southampton was seen as a doubt to make Juve’s opening few fixtures in February, in a bid to regain his conditioning through training, with it deemed that he was out of shape upon arrival from England.

However, Tuttosport lead suggestions today that the 28-year-old is impressing in training and responding with greater ease than expected to the tests medical staff have put him through.

Also seen as working with keen ‘attention to instruction’ and having shown a ‘great desire’ to do well, the Italo-Argentine is increasingly speculated as in line for an appearance at least from the bench in Week 23’s trip out to Verona.

The Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that Antonio Conte has earmarked him as first alternative in attack to Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente, and that in the Europa League, he will likely be a regular starter alongside Mirko Vucinic.
