Italian referee Daniele Orsato and VAR Massimiliano Irrati have been assigned to the crucial World Cup match between Argentina and Mexico.

The pair had officiated the opening match of the tournament in Qatar between the hosts and Ecuador.

There have already been some controversial decisions in the competition, particularly in last night’s fixture that saw Belgium beat Canada 1-0.

This is going to be a massive game in the course of the event, because Argentina lost their opener 2-1 to Saudi Arabia, while Mexico drew 0-0 with Poland.

It leaves Group C wide open and the clash between South American and CONCACAF nations has often been fiery.

Orsato therefore has to keep a lid on proceedings and will be dealing with several Serie A players, including Lautaro Martinez, Hirving Lozano, Angel Di Maria and Johan Vasquez.

Anything less than a victory could see Argentina – one of the favourites going into the competition – doomed to an early elimination in Qatar.
