The San Siro giants have so far undergone a difficult season and, in light of unsuccessful transfer campaigns and four different Coaches used since Jose Mourinho left 18 months ago, criticism has been levelled at those running the club.
President Massimo Moratti, who has faced calls to resign, is thought likely to initiate change once again this summer and there are rumours that Oriali could return, something that the man himself is not ruling out.
“I do like the signs of support towards me,” admitted Oriali on Tuesday to Mediaset.
“I left Inter two years ago and I must say that among social networks and through other events at the stadium, I have received so much love from the fans.
“But even so, let those who must decide do it calmly, without forcing anyone’s hand.
“I think it is difficult for Moratti [to leave Inter] because he is their biggest fan and I hope that he remains President for a long time because I’m sure he can revive the team to a high level.”
A former player at the club, Oriali held the role of technical director from 1999 to 2010. He was seen as both an intermediary between those at boardroom level and coaching staff and also acted as an advisor to and protagonist of the club’s transfer market strategy.
He left in July 2010, reportedly after failing to agree to a change in role when Coach Rafa Benitez wanted Amedeo Carboni to take on Oriali’s responsibilities.
