Milan dived in and director Paolo Maldini proved decisive in his face-to-face discussions with Tonali’s entourage as well as Brescia, with President Massimo Cellino name-checking him as a crucial element to the deal.

Multiple sources now state Milan will take Tonali on loan for €10m with an option to buy for a further €25m plus €3m in bonuses, taking the total cost of the operation to €38m.

Calciomercato.com are confident another meeting planned over the next couple of days will whittle down the final details, as Brescia want it to be an obligation to buy rather than a loan.

The Rondinelle are also asking for a percentage of his sell-on fee as part of the agreement.

Manchester United are also interested in Tonali, but the Italy international is determined to remain in Serie A and has already chosen Milan.

A five-year contract worth €2m per season is ready and waiting for his signature.
