José Mourinho has repeatedly said he wanted to meet Roma directors before June, but now that the time has come, Monday appears to be the deadline set for discussing his future at the Stadio Olimpico.

Mourinho has one year left in his contract in the capital and has been waiting for a meeting with club owners and directors for a long time. “It’s mid-February, do you think the club will talk to me in June? I guess it would be too late,” Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia on February 15.

The Portuguese coach still hasn’t met owner Dan Friedkin and the big question after Roma’s loss in the Europa League Final against Sevilla is: why have Roma directors and owners been waiting for so long despite knowing Mou wanted to discuss his future?

Sky Sport Italia’s pundits raised the same question on Wednesday night following Roma’s loss to Sevilla in the Europa League Final.

Mourinho’s future has dominated the debate in Italian media and the Special One has done little to commit his future to the club. On the contrary, during his post-match press conference, he admitted to being “tired” adding that he and his players “deserve more” from the club.

However, he also said that “WE” won’t play Champions League football next season, which is “paradoxically good news” leaving the door open to his stay in the capital.

Mourinho also told DAZN on Wednesday night that he would go on holiday on Monday, suggesting he won’t be available to talk to the club after the weekend. The ex-Inter boss has recently said that he hasn’t been in talks with other clubs.

His deal at the Stadio Olimpico runs out in June 2024, but this past April he warned the Giallorossi that contracts are “not the most important thing” in football.
