Sergio Oliveira was in high spirits following his impressive debut for Roma in their 1-0 win over Cagliari tonight.

The 29-year-old Portuguese midfielder was a key figure in the victory, winning and scoring a penalty in the first half to secure all three points for Jose Mourinho’s side. Despite the tense second half, Oliveira performed well throughout, looking to be a strong addition to the Giallorossi squad.

Speaking in an interview with DAZN after the game, Oliveira first reacted to his impressive debut against Cagliari.

“The truth is that I really wanted to win this game. We managed to win in the end. It was a pity that there were only a few fans because of the COVID restrictions. We are already thinking about the next game.”

He explained why he was the designated penalty taker in the match.

“Lorenzo Pellegrini was the penalty taker, then he had a problem. We had already agreed that I would be the second option. I’m happy that the team won.”

Finally, Oliveira commented on the goals that he brought with him to Roma.

“We have to think about one game at a time, then we’ll see.”

The 29-year-old Oliveira has joined Roma on a six-month loan deal from Porto, being an important reinforcement for Mourinho. He had the perfect start to his time in the Italian capital this evening and he’ll be hoping to carry on this level of quality in the upcoming games as well.
