The former Sampdoria striker has been linked with a return to Serie A for Bologna, perhaps as part of the deal taking full-back Adam Masina to Watford.

“I did hear various rumours regarding my brother, in particular about Bologna,” his agent and brother Carlo Okaka told GianlucaDiMarzio.com.

“Stefano would love to work with Pippo Inzaghi, especially as in the past the Coach wanted him at Milan. However, at the moment there has been no contact.

“Watford put a very high price on my brother and it would be impossible to use him as part of an exchange. At this moment, after two difficult years at Watford due to an injury and some of Marco Silva’s debatable decisions, he wants to get back in top shape to prove what he can do in an environment that appreciates him.

“The current Hornets Coach, Javi Gracia, really likes him and wants to focus the team on him next season. Of course, if an important proposal were to arrive, we’d evaluate it with Watford.

“The important thing is that Stefano wants to be at the centre of the project, because he is a strong player and it’s the only way he can prove himself.”

When asked about potential offers from China, the agent confirmed “there have been some calls, but it’s too early to talk about that.”
