Former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has officially joined Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir on the same day he was released by Atalanta.

Skrtel signed for Atalanta on August 9 but left on Monday without making a single appearance, his place taken by Sevilla loanee Simon Kjaer.

The 34-year-old was not a free agent for long as Basaksehir confirmed in the evening that he had signed for them.
