Maurizio Sarri is officially the new Coach of Napoli on what appears to be a one-year contract.

Negotiations and meetings have been going on for almost a week, as the ex-Empoli boss emerged as the front-runner to replace Rafa Benitez.

There was another encounter in Rome this evening between Sarri and President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

It had been reported the deal was a two-year contract, but the announcement suggests there is only a one-season agreement with an option for a second.

Sarri was born in Naples in January 1959, but spent most of management career in the lower leagues.

He made his Serie A debut with Empoli in 2014-15 and not only secured their safety, but also did so with entertaining and impressive football.
