Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have officially confirmed the signing of Napoli midfielder Eljif Elmas on a four-and-a-half year contract, which will run until the summer of 2028.

Leipzig have added that Elmas will meet up with his new teammates for the first time when they travel to their winter training camp in La Manga, Spain on January 2.

Recent reports suggest that the East German side have forked out a fee in the region of €25m for Elmas’s services, a sum which will help Napoli bring in a direct replacement in the January transfer window.

Elmas had already completed his medicals in Germany towards the end of December and photographs of his contract signing began to emerge online shortly afterwards.

The 24-year-old agreed to join Napoli in a deal worth €19m including bonuses from Fenerbahce in July 2019.

Since then, he has gone on to make 189 total appearances for the Partenopei, 143 of which came in Serie A, including 14 league goals and a further five across Europe and the Coppa Italia.

Elmas is currently in the final stages of his recovery from a recent hamstring injury, but it is expected that he will be back to full fitness by the turn of the new year.

RB Leipzig’s first match after the Bundesliga winter break will be against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Red Bull Arena on January 13, kicking off at 14.30 GMT.
