A statement on the club’s official website confirmed Pioli had stepped down, while his assistant Giacomo Murelli took training ‘normally’ on Tuesday morning.
Explaining his decision to ANSA, the 53-year-old said: “I’ve always assumed my responsibilities.
“I’ve always guaranteed professionalism, respect and maximum commitment in my work: I reluctantly see myself forced to leave, resigning, because my professional and above all human qualities have been questioned.”
It also comes after fans attacked the Della Valle family for making a scapegoat out of the trainer, branding the owners ‘the shame of Florence’.
The 53-year-old was appointed Fiorentina Coach in the summer of 2017 and guided the side to an eighth-place finish in Serie A last season, despite the death of captain Davide Astori.
However, the Tuscans have won just one of their last 11 games, although they have a Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Atalanta to look forward to.
Ex-Roma Coach Eusebio Di Francesco is the favourite to take the reins, although Primavera tactician Emiliano Bigica and Lecce’s Fabio Liverani have also been mentioned.
