Daniel Maldini has officially completed his loan move to Spezia for one season, temporarily ending the Maldini family’s bond with Milan.

A statement from the Rossoneri confirmed it is a dry loan, so will only last for one season without an option to buy.

The 20-year-old creative midfielder is the son of director Paolo Maldini and grandson of Milan legend Cesare Maldini.

He becomes the first member of this Calcio family to play for a Serie A club other than the Diavolo since Cesare retired at Torino in 1967.

Daniel also has a brother, Christian, who is currently playing in Serie C with Pro Sesto and never made his top flight debut.

Daniel Maldini has made 15 Serie A appearances so far in his career, scoring one goal, which curiously enough was against his new club Spezia in September 2021.

  1. I wish him the best. Playing consistent minutes in Serie A could do wonders for him, as the talent is there. He needs confidence and to mature physically.

I hope he flourishes there and comes back next season to take Diaz’s place when he heads back to Real.

  2. Seems like a great destination. With CDK taking a lot of space in the team, he would struggle.to find minutes. Hopefully he takes strides forward and returns to break into Milans first 11.on a year or two.

  3. Not even a Maldini can make it these days. I know it’s only a l.o.a.n but very few of those (or transfers generally) work out (as in the player performs at the same or higher level for their new club). With younger players it usually just leads to a few lost years bouncing around clubs nobody quite prepared to commit because it’s all temporary. It’s not exactly the perfect conditions for developing players. So it’s a goodbye from me. Even you weren’t given a chance.
