Lazio have officially signed forward Matteo Cancellieri from Hellas Verona, on loan with obligation to buy for €7m plus bonuses.

The 20-year-old right-sided winger had been on the verge of joining Sassuolo when suddenly the Biancocelesti increased their offer.

It is widely reported the player preferred Lazio, partly because it means a return home to the Capital, even though he went through the Roma youth academy.

Another reason was his determination to work with coach Maurizio Sarri.

Cancellieri had his medical with Lazio this morning and has now completed the transfer.

It is officially a loan with obligation to buy under certain circumstances, which allows Lazio to spread the payment out.

He scored two goals and provided one assist in 14 competitive matches for Verona this season, earning him his senior Italy debut in the Nations League draw with Germany.

Cancellieri plays primarily on the right wing of a trident attack, but can also work on the left or as a support striker.
