Lazio have confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Marcos Antonio.

The 22-year-old has joined Maurizio Sarri’s side from Shakhtar Donetsk.

He had undergone his medical with the Biancocelesti last week and Lazio have now confirmed his signing.

They failed to reveal the deal’s financial details, but according to reports, Lazio have signed the Brazilian for €8m plus add-ons.

“Lazio announce the permanent signing of the player Marcos Antonio Silva Santos from Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk F.C,” the Biancocelesti wrote in a brief statement.

Coach Maurizio Sarri seemed pleased about the signing earlier this week when he discussed Lazio’s transfer activity during an event attended by Football Italia.

“Marcos Antonio is a young lad, we had this opportunity to sign him – also due to rather unfortunate circumstances (in Ukraine). We had a 35-year-old player in that role whose contract was running down, so we went for this option,” he said.

“He needs to get used to Italian football, he has some Champions League experience and we’re happy to give him time to adapt.”

  1. Such an upgrade in midfield in stead of old Leiva… Now we have to sell Luis Alberto and bring on Ilic from Verona who suits better in Sarri ball, and our midfield is complete. Avanti!
