Juventus released a statement confirming that Arthur Melo had surgery and will be out of action for circa three months.
The Brazilian had originally sustained the injury in February, but rather than heal, the tear in the membrane hardened and became calcified.
This was not resolved using traditional methods of treatment, so had to be removed using surgery.
That operation was completed today by Doctors Piana and Battiston at the Fornaca clinic in Turin.
A statement released by Juventus confirms ‘the recovery time is circa three months.’
“This afternoon Arthur underwent surgery to remove the ossification of the interosseous membrane of his right leg.
“The operation, performed by Dr. Piana and Dr. Battiston, in the presence of the Juventus health officer Dr. Stefanini at the Fornaca clinic in Turin, was successful.
“The recovery time is approximately 3 months.”
The former Barcelona midfielder arrived last summer in an exchange for Miralem Pjanic, plus €10m.
He has so far failed to live up to expectations and made very little impact at the Allianz Juventus Stadium.
That is partly due to the on-going fitness problems that dominated his stay, and this operation will do little to help the situation.
The player turns 25 next month and made 32 competitive appearances for Juve last season, scoring one goal.
