Italy and Turkey Football Associations have launched a bid to host EURO 2032 together.
Italy and Turkey aim to host EURO 2032 jointly and have sent an official request to UEFA, as confirmed by the Italian FA and the European Football Governing Body on Friday.
The FIGC had already launched their own bid to host the competition this past April, revealing that games would be staged across Milan, Turin, Verona, Genoa, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples, Bari and Cagliari.
With today’s statement, the FIGC said venues would be revealed later if UEFA accepted their joint bid with Turkey.
“It’s a historic turnaround that aims to valorise continental football,” said FIGC President Gabriele Gravina.
“Aside from nearing two consolidated realities in the European football panorama, this project enhances the values of friendship and cooperation, involving two worlds with deep historical roots that, over the millennia, have contaminated each other, substantially influencing the history of Mediterranean Europe. Football wants to be an ideal bridge for sharing passions and emotions related to sport.”
UEFA also released a statement on Friday afternoon after receiving the request from Italy and Turkey.
“UEFA will now work with FIGC and TFF to ensure that the documentation to be submitted for their joint bid is compliant with the bidding requirements,” UEFA’s statement reads.
“If the joint bid does comply with such requirements, it will be submitted to the UEFA Executive Committee at the meeting scheduled on 10 October, where the appointments for 2028 and 2032 will be made. Decisions on venues and match schedules will be made at a later stage.”
WTF? Why isn’t Italy going alone on a bid? To me this is ridiculous. Italy, with it’s rich football history and still one of the best leagues in the world should be hosting this alone.
