Napoli reveal their star striker Victor Osimhen will remain out of action for three months after undergoing a cheekbone operation.

The Nigerian striker was diagnosed with multiple facial fractures after a clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar on Sunday. He was forced to leave the pitch in the second half.

Osimhen underwent cheekbone operation this morning and he will remain out of action for at least 90 days.

The player’s recovery time has been revealed by Napoli with an official statement published on their website.

Osimhen has successful surgery, Spalletti reveals return date

This comes as a huge blow for Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti who hoped Osimhen would remain out of action for just three or four games.

The Tuscan tactician said Osimhen could return to action on December 19 in Napoli’s away Serie A clash against Milan.

Clearly, this won’t be the case anymore and Osimhen will also miss the Africa Cup of Nations that begins on January 9, 2022.

Napoli travel to Russia without Osimhen, Anguissa and Lorenzo Insigne who has suffered knee issues and didn’t train with the rest of the group this morning.

  1. This kid is injury prone. He’s either going to have to learn how to play with more regard to his own safety, or he needs to be off-loaded. Napoli now not only have to dig deep with the people they have, but must also look to the January window for some help.

  2. Unfortunate that this young star is injured but he needs to know that he cannot play with reckless abandon, Also he has been targeted by the center backs and constantly harrassed, tripped and interfered. The refs have not given Osimen or Napoli the kind of treatment that is given Juve forwards or the Milan strikers. Do you think that Osimen and Ibrahimovic are treated equally, or Morata and Dybala. The officiating in Serie A is biased and suspicion of corruption is plausible. The league remains centered on Juve and Milan since historically they have been Italy’s most successful and financially powerful teams. The bias is near systematic and needs serious attention and avaluation. If not no team other than the big three will have a chance to capture the scudetto and gain financial stability.

  3. He’s not injury prone, he’s too passionate and has been unlucky.

I think this might be a trick from Napoli to not send him to ACON. He was already going to be out for a month and then immediately leave for Africa. This way they keep him and I’m predicting he will be available from mid-January.

  4. @ Joel Parkles- Offloaded? your comment is the most ridiculous thing have heard since COVID-19, are you serious right now? all the injury he has had were all defenders inflicted and that is simply because he gave all out on the field fighting for every ball, if he’s a soft striker you will label him a lazy player and now you are saying this ? I think you are using to watching water polo , I don’t think football is for you, go home.

  5. Also, it was a clash of heads. Hardly a dirty play. It was a footballing play seen dozens of times. But yes, carry on how Refs protect Milan and Juve players and not Napoli ones.

  6. Thanks @ Ralph for that lovely reply you gave Joel. His comment seems to be way too harsh for a player who makes the differences when it matters for Napoli. Maybe he could tell us whom he thinks could be a better sticker at Napoli aside for him. SMH
