After initially failing a medical, Genoa have now officially signed Mario Boselli from Wigan Athletic.

Many thought the deal had collapsed last night when reports emerged of an 8mm muscle tear discovered during his medical.

However, this evening Genoa's official website announced that Boselli had been signed on loan with the option to buy at the end of the season.

It seems the medical staff judged the injury to be not too serious and he could fully recover within two weeks.

The signature comes just days after another transfer, for Newell's Old Boys midfielder Mauro Formica, collapsed.

“It was all decided, but Genoa changed the conditions of the transfer,” slammed Newell's director Jorge Ricobelli in Secolo XIX newspaper.

“This was just crazy. We thought we were negotiating with professionals, instead they changed the payment method and rates at the last minute.”

Formica's agent was also furious with Genoa for stalling the move.

“In 25 years of my career I've never encountered anything like it,” blasted Richardo Schlieper.

“It was all done, then they changed the cards on the table. The player is distraught, while Genoa have embarrassed themselves and ought to apologise.”
