Sampdoria announce that forward Manolo Gabbiadini has tested positive for Coronavirus, the second Serie A player to be diagnosed.

The Italy international and former Southampton, Napoli and Bologna star follows on from Juventus defender Daniele Rugani in testing positive for the COVID-19 respiratory illness.

“UC Sampdoria announce that player Manolo Gabbiadini has tested positive for Coronavirus-COVID-19,” read a statement.

“He has a slight fever, but is doing well. The club is activating all the procedures of isolation laid out in the rules.”

The 28-year-old made 23 competitive appearances this season, scoring seven goals with two assists.

Gabbiadini played for an hour in the 2-1 win over Hellas Verona on March 8, which was played behind closed doors due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

It’s now possible Hellas Verona will also have to go into lockdown, just as Inter activated quarantine procedures when Rugani tested positive just days after their game against Juventus.
