Former Serie A duo Dries Mertens and Lucas Torreira have both headed to Turkey to join Galatasaray.

The former left Napoli after nine years last month after his contract expired. He had hoped for a new deal but it was clear that Aurelio De Laurentiis wanted to revitalise the squad this summer. The latter spent last season on loan with Fiorentina, where he shone, but a permanent move never ultimately failed to materialise.

As announced today, both Mertens and Torreira have joined Galatasaray on definitive transfers, with the Belgian signing on a free transfer and the Uruguayan joining in a deal worth around €6m from Arsenal.

Mertens has signed a one-year deal with the Turkish side with the option for a second, whilst Torreira put pen to paper on a four-year contract.

Considering their shared experiences in Serie A, joining at the same time allows them to settle at the club together.
