Napoli announce Eljif Elmas has recovered from COVID and is heading back to Italy.

The North Macedonia international was one of the six Napoli players who tested positive for COVID over the last few weeks.

The 22-year-old tested positive in Macedonia, so he could not travel to Italy after Christmas.

However, his latest swab test came back negative, so he’s been allowed to return to Naples.

“Elmas’ latest PCR test confirmed he is negative for COVID-19 after he obtained the same result in North Macedonia yesterday before returning to Italy,” Napoli statement read.

Napoli are supposed to face Juventus at the Allianz Stadium tomorrow, but the local health authorities are considering barring the Partenopei from travelling up north amid fears of a COVID outbreak in the team.

Kevin Malcuit, Mario Rui and coach Luciano Spalletti tested positive for COVID yesterday.

  1. A positive test for coronavirus is not the same as being infected with Covid-19. So, Elmas has not ‘recovered from Covid,” he is simply no longer testing positive for the coronavirus.
