Roma have officially confirmed that Mattia Destro will be out for around two months after he underwent knee surgery today.

The striker damaged the meniscus in his left knee during the Coppa Italia win over Inter on Wednesday.

“Mattia Destro underwent surgery on his left knee at Villa Margherita today,” confirmed a statement.

“The operation – a partial meniscectomy of the body and posterior horn of the lateral meniscus – was performed  by professor Giuliano Cerulli in the presence of doctor Francesco Colautti.

“It lasted 20 minutes and was a complete success. The recovery period is expected to be approximately eight weeks.”

There had been hopes the injury would only keep Destro sidelined for a month, but the operation showed there was more serious damage and this will take two months to recover from.

When asked about the news during his Press conference today, Coach Zdenek Zeman merely shrugged and said: “I have enough strikers.”
