Bologna have officially signed Lewis Ferguson from Aberdeen, another Scotland international after Aaron Hickey left for Brentford.

The Stadio Dall’Ara is becoming something of a Scottish haven in Italy and Serie A, investing in and developing talents to then sell on at a huge profit.

Full-back Hickey was purchased from Hearts of Midlothian in September 2020 for €1.7m and then sold to Premier League side Brentford this summer for €16.5m plus up to another €5.5m in add-ons.

Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic hopes for a similar trajectory with the arrival of midfielder Ferguson from Aberdeen for a reported fee of €3.5m.

He comes from a football family, the son of Derek Ferguson and nephew of Barry Ferguson, both Scotland internationals who played for Glasgow Rangers.

Ferguson will turn 23 next month and has four senior caps for his country.

He had also been linked with Serie A sides Lecce, Sassuolo and Empoli over the last few months.
