Inter midfielder Ricky Alvarez has officially signed for Sunderland on loan, but the option to buy was removed.

It had been reported for several days that the Black Cats would pay €1m for the one-season loan with an option to buy for a further €11m.

That option was to become mandatory if Sunderland avoided relegation from the Premier League.

However, this evening the transfer was completed and both clubs state it is only “a season-long loan move.”

Inter’s statement confirmed it is “loan that includes a fee,” but there are no details on a possible permanent move.

“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a great opportunity, a great club and I’m looking forward to playing in England and playing my part for Sunderland,” the 26-year-old told the official club website.
