Former Milan and Italy defender Massimo Oddo says it is absurd to place the blame for the Azzurri’s World Cup failure solely on Mario Balotelli.

The Rossoneri forward has attracted fierce criticism following Cesare Prandelli’s side’s Group Stage exit in Brazil, from media, fans and even seemingly his own teammates.

Speaking to Radio Deejay, World Cup 2006 winner Oddo also said it is time for a revamp within Italian football.

“It’s a World Cup which has gone badly,” he said. “Now is the time to change in order to start again in a new way.

“We need to change and revolutionise everything.

“Our football is a football linked to politics, so we need young people who know the world of football well.

“We need new ideas that will enable us to get back close to other teams.

“Balotelli? If things go badly it’s absurd to think that it’s only one person’s fault.

“It’s horrible to hear of attacking a teammate, you should only be taking about things like that within the changing room.

“You shouldn’t attack teammates outside the changing room.”
