Roberto Donadoni says he has no regrets about his time on the Napoli bench as his Parma side prepare to entertain the Azzurri this weekend.

The 48-year-old spent less than a year in charge at the Stadio San Paolo and he was replaced by Walter Mazzarri in October 2009.

“I have no regrets about my time in Naples,” the former Italian national Coach told Il Mattino. “There is perhaps a little disappointment.

“With a bit more time I may have been able to give some joy to the fans.”

Since Donadoni’s axing, the Azzurri have finished third in Serie A and are presently in the last 16 of the Champions League.

“In the last two years it is clear that the side has taken on the dimension of a big club, the results say that.

“The success is down to some proper planning from the club and some excellent purchases on the transfer market.”

In recent times, the importance of Argentine forward Ezequiel Lavezzi is being noted at the Stadio San Paolo.

“I’m not surprised at all,” Donadoni continued. “He has great quality and his touches can make the difference in the middle of the pitch.

“If he can learn to be a bit more disciplined without the ball then he can turn into a priceless champion.”
