Italy Under 21 coach Paolo Nicolato thanked his players and said he has no regrets after the Azzurrini’s elimination from the U21 European Championship.

“Portugal deserve the praise. I am proud to have coached these lads. They made me proud. It’s the last time I coach some of these players,” Nicolato told Rai Sport after Italy’s 5-3 defeat against Portugal in the quarter-finals of the U21 European Championship.

“We’ve always proved our personality, I have no regrets, and that’s the best thing,” he continued.

“I am even struggling to talk right now. The lads gave me everything. We went all the way through in three competitions.

“They are valuable lads here. They proved what it means to wear the Azzurri shirt. Now we have two more years to spend together.”
