“It’s going to be behind closed doors, but our fans will still be watching from afar and we’ll imagine them in the stands, because we are so much in sync with them,” Nicola told the club website.

“They are doing so much for us and we want to repay them with a positive performance. We worked well in training and there’s still a day to go, so we’ll see who is available and who isn’t.

“We don’t like being in our current position, but we know the fans are standing by us, we feel their warmth and go forward together.”

Milan picked up their form recently and Genoa are still in the relegation zone, but the coach has confidence.

“We need a volcanic Genoa, full of fire, energy, concentration and focus. Milan are a strong side with quality players, so we must back up our ideas with enthusiasm.

“Milan have a lot of great players, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic stands out as a true champion. We must try to limit his capabilities with concentration and above all teamwork.”

This is going to be a special occasion for Nicola, his 100th Serie A game as a coach.
