The Rossoblu host direct rivals Torino in the relegation battle, and the Granata arrive from five consecutive draws.

Nicola wants to see more of the attitude on display in recent weeks, as he aims to pick up his first win since he took over in Turin.

“We must be united,” Nicola said at a press conference. “This team must always be on top. In this way, there are no excuses, because you have given your all.

“In the last four games, we have seen an attitude that reflects me. Against Cagliari, we must take another step.”

The match against Cagliari is extra important with the Rossoblu two points behind Torino in Serie A and a defeat would mean the Granata fall into the relegation zone.

“Saving ourselves is a serious thing, but the games are not made with proclamations,” he continued. “The balance lies in this; you need to work on an identity and know how to put it into practice.

“First of all, we are ourselves. We have to do everything to the fullest. Sacrifices and commitment make you improve further.

“Then it’s clear that there are the opponents and their values.”

But Torino confirmed two players have tested positive for coronavirus the eve before the match against the Rossoblu.

“The news of the two positives does nothing but make what was said previously consistent,” he said. “Everyone in a group is important and they need to be ready when their chance comes.

“We have to put the players in conditions to do well."
