Crotone Coach Davide Nicola believes his side will prove a better proposition once his new signings have gelled.

The Pitagorici miraculously avoided relegation from Serie A last season but, following today’s loss at Cagliari, have started the new campaign with just one point from their opening three matches.

“We need to look at the numbers. We have changed 50 per cent of the team,” Nicola explained post-match in Sardinia.

“We need to work but that doesn’t scare us. Today we gifted them a half, we didn’t impose our game.

“Gifting the opposition a half means it is never easy to then get points.”

Nicola added that last season’s escape from the drop is now history and that he is only looking to the future.

“Staying up last season is a closed chapter. I stayed here because I know it can work.

“For a young Coach, this is the ideal environment. Staying up by working hard is our only target.

“Once we have completed the integration of the new players, we can have an identity.

“We want to get back to competing at every stadium.”
