Davide Nicola could be returning to the Livorno bench after holding talks with President Aldo Spinelli on Monday night.

Nicola was sacked last Monday after a run of seven defeats in eight left the team struggling in 19th in Serie A.

However, replacement Attilio Perotti was not well received by ultras at his presentation and after overseeing a 3-0 defeat at the weekend to Roma, has reportedly signalled to Spinelli his belief that he cannot continue in the role long term.

This reportedly prompted Spinelli’s meeting with Nicola in Genoa on Monday night, attended also by sporting director Stefano Capozucca.

It is understood that Spinelli has asked for Nicola’s return and that the Coach has agreed, but only on the provision that the club back him in the transfer market, to improve the squad. Talks are seen as set to continue.
