M’Baye Niang scored on his Montpellier debut, but apologised to Max Allegri after an errant tweet.

The Milan-owned forward moved back to France on loan this week and found the net on his debut, so retweeted a series of supportive comments.

However, in among the crowd of tweets he also highlighted one with a very insulting term aimed at Coach Allegri.

“I retweeted a tweet that I shouldn’t have done,” wrote Niang after he was made aware of the error.

“I cancelled it as soon as I realised, but I never wanted to lack respect towards anyone, especially those who believed in me.

“I apologise if I hurt anyone. Now enough with the pointless controversy!”
