M’Baye Niang admits he’d been “waiting a long time for a night like this” when bagging his first Milan brace.

The 20-year-old first joined the Rossoneri in 2012, but had never scored a Serie A goal in his previous 35 games for the club.

“I am very happy, as I’d been waiting a long time for a night like this,” Niang told Mediaset Premium.

He scored twice and provided an assist in the 4-1 demolition of Sampdoria, receiving a standing ovation at San Siro.

“All the hard work paid off and I hope to continue like this. We must adapt to the system chosen by the Coach and tonight we went well with the 4-4-2. I like to play as a centre-forward.

“We must continue with this same mentality, the desire to attack and defend all together. I prefer to play in attack, as I can keep the ball up in front of goal, but I can also help on the wings as I already have done.

“I want to thank Mario Balotelli, as he sent me a text after the game. I feel great, I work hard every day in training. I felt a little tired at the end and should’ve rationed out my energy levels, but asked to be substituted when I couldn’t manage it anymore.”
