Roma midfielder Carles Perez is in negotiations for a loan move with option to buy for Newcastle United, according to reports in Italy.

The 23-year-old Spaniard was signed from Barcelona in January 2020 for a total €12m plus bonuses.

He has made 48 competitive appearances in the Giallorossi jersey, scoring five goals and providing six assists for his teammates.

Calciomercato.com claim that Newcastle United have approached Roma for Perez, who might not get much playing time this season at the Stadio Olimpico under new coach Jose Mourinho.

It could be a loan with option to buy, or more likely an obligation to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.

Newcastle had already been tracking Perez last year and this summer he was linked with potential loans to Serie A clubs Genoa and Torino.

Perez plays primarily on the right wing, but can also work as a creative midfielder or on the left.

He was a product of the Espanyol academy first, moving to Barcelona as part of their Under-16 squad in 2012.
