“The Champions League has a special sensation, especially for our top level players, so we expect a Champions League evening,” the Vice-President told Sky Sport Italia.

“There were many reasons behind our performance against Fiorentina, mainly fatigue returning from international duty.”

Former Ajax centre-back De Ligt starts in defence again with Leonardo Bonucci, having taken over earlier than expected due to Giorgio Chiellini’s serious knee injury.

“He is working hard, I like him a lot and he’s improving. Obviously, it takes time and he is very young. It’s just a pity that Giorgio got injured, as he too could’ve helped De Ligt learn in training, but it sped up the process.”

Dybala is on the bench yet again in Madrid and has only played 14 minutes so far this season, having been so close to an exit to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

“I think there will be space for Dybala too. He’s a fine player, he is part of our squad and I saw him doing well in training recently, so I’m sure the Coach saw that too and there will be space for him.”
